Do you really want to "submit" your details?

Contact forms and the infamous "submit" button Web designers often end their website forms with a button for users to click when they've finished filling in the form. Technically, what's happening is that the user is "submitting the form" to the company in question and this is often shortened to "submit". But what about that word "submit". The most common dictionary definition is "to yield to a superior force" - ouch! All the customer wanted to do was to ask a question or request a brochure! Bearing in mind that many users are anxious about providing information on web forms, the use of the word "submit" probably doesn't help to inspire confidence. Why not think about what is actually happening from a user perspective? Simply put, the user is clicking the button to send their form to you, so how about saying "Send Form" instead? And if you are asking for any personal information on the form, include a comment next to the button to confirm that you won't share the users information with anyone else and you won't bombard them with spam!
